Sac tapped?

Asked by Quadsimotto 11 years ago

Can a player sac a tapped creature? Or block then sac? From what i remember in the past(waaaaay back) you could not do this. Does this still hold true?

You can sacrifice tapped permanents.

Cards like Black Lotus and Misty Rainforest would be pretty useless, otherwise.

You can also block and sac. Once an attacking creature is blocked, it remains blocked for the rest of combat. It won't deal damage to a player unless it has trample.

You can do this, and have always been able to do this. Sacrifice doesn't check for tapped creatures, and after declaring blockers you can still do things with those creatures. Any creatures they were blocking remain blocked, even if there are no blockers left.

Unless the ability says otherwise ("Sacrifice an untapped creature") he will be able to sacrifice it. There is a round of priority after the defending player declares blockers; activating an ability like Blood Bairn 's is possible in that time. The game never moves onto the next step/phase until both players pass priority over and empty stack, starting with the active player.

Great, Thank you. Guess i was misinformed in the past as to whether or not i could do that.At any rate the info is appreciated. So could i attack with a Hellhole Flailer with a Dying Wish attached pay its activation cost, sac it and trigger both of those abilities?

Well, only one of those abilities is triggered. The sacrifice comes from the activated ability of Hellhole Flailer . But yes, you can sacrifice a tapped creature.

So if i swing and hit for four (Unleash) Payed the cost to sac it it and deal damage equal to its power to target player would the Dying Wish not also go on the stack?(being that the creature died) Dealing a total of 12 damage to opponent and gaining four life in the process?

Your understand is correct it's just the semantics of the words "trigger" and "activated" you used incorrectly. You said "trigger both abilities"; when one ability is a triggered ability (Dying Wish ) and the other is an activated one (Hellhole Flailer ).
