Rhonas the Indomitable and Voltaic Brawler

Asked by Argy 7 years ago

If these are the only two Creatures on the field and you move to combat, can you attack with both if you pay to give Voltaic Brawler +1/+1?

My spidey senses are saying no.

No. Declaring attackers is a turn-based action that happens at the beginning of the declare attacker step. Voltaic Brawler's ability triggers and goes on the stack after attackers have already been declared, so you cannot attack with Rhonas because at the time you declare, you do not have a creature with power 4 or greater.

Yes. As I thought, but was unable to say as succinctly as you.

Thanks.

There is one exception of note here, and that is if you can give yourself a second combat step, say if you exert Combat Celebrant. Then, during your second declare attackers step, Voltaic Brawler still still have +1/+1 since that lasts till the end of turn, at which point you WILL have a creature with power of 4 or greater, and during that second attack phase Rhonas will be able to attack.
