Redirect vs Hexproof

Asked by UmbrotheUmbreon 12 years ago

If a creature has hexproof, and your opponent casts a Lightning Bolt targeting your creature, can you Redirect it to the hexproof creature?

Opponent controls Sacred Wolf . Opponent casts Lightning Bolt targeting a creature I control. Can I cast Redirect and change the target to Sacred Wolf ?

I think so cause I am not targeting the wolf with a spell or ability, I just basically told my opponent he has to target his own creature instead of mine. Am I right?

Yes, you are right. They control the spell, that's why it can be redirected.

If the player controlling the hexproof creature is the same one who controls the spell being Redirect ed, yes. His creature is a legal target for his spell, so that's a legal choice for a new target. Redirect only targets the spell you're messing with.

Best case situation:

Opponent controls like a bajillion hexproof creatures with 1 toughness and you are at 1 life.

Opponent miracles a Bonfire of the Damned for one.

Redirect

Opponent now has a sadface.
