Reaper of Sheoldred and Pariah's Shield interaction

Asked by vbcnxm_ 7 years ago

say I have Reaper of Sheoldred equipped with a Pariah's Shield (or just straight up Pariah ) and my opponent attacks me, who gets the poison counter?

Would it be him, since it was his creature that attacked me and then dealt damage to the reaper

Or would it be me, since my Pariah effect redirected that damage?

BlueScope says... Accepted answer #1

The two cards you mentioned (which by the way function identically) are both redirection effects, which is a type of replacement effect. They modify the original event, and what would've happened (you getting damage) never happens, instead something else happens (Reaper of Sheoldred getting damage).

This means that the source is your opponent's creature, in this case, and that player would get a poison counter.
