Quick help plz

I'm trying to cast Foul Emissary and the guy wants to use Just the Wind. They say i cant look at the top 4 cards and pick a creature. Now I should still be able to look at the top 4 cards and put a creature card into my hand because it has to be put on the battlefield before it can be returned to my hands correct? Now if they were to use say Unsubstantiate and return target spell instead of creature then i wouldnt get the triggered effect?

You are correct. Foul Emissary has to ETB for him to technically "return" it to your hand so his ETB effect will still get to trigger

EDIT: And correct you are again with the Unsubstantiate ruling. If he/she were to Unsubstantiate rather than Just the Wind your Foul Emissary, you would get no ETB effect

The creature is returned but the effect was placed on the stack before they got priority to bounce. You will get to look at the top 4 cards.

You are correct in both scenarios. Something to add, creatures (and other permanents) abilities go onto the stack separate of their physical entity. When foul emmissary enters the ability goes onto the stack. Whether he is there or not the ability is onthe stack and must do something which in this case is to resolve. But if the permanent is supposed to be targeted or does something using itself like Polukranos, World Eater for example the ability would not resolve if he wasnt there because HE is dealing the damage.

You are correct. For Foul Emissary to be on the battlefield (and so be a valid target for Just the Wind), he must have first resolved, so the effect is already on the stack. Your opponent can cast Just the Wind is response, or wait until after the trigger, but either way you get to find a creature.

If they were to Unsubstantiate the Foul Emissary While it was on the stack i.e. while it was still a 'spell', it would never enter the battlefield and you wouldn't get the trigger.

EmblemMan: That's incorrect regarding Polukranos, World Eater.

The triggered ability is what deals the damage, and it triggers once Polukranos, World Eater becomes monstrous.

Because the damage comes from the ability, you can bounce Polukranos, World Eater after monstrous has resolved, but before the triggered ability resolves. In that case, the ability will still deal damage based on Polukranos, World Eater's last known information.
