Question about Priority and the Stack

Asked by Bovine073 8 years ago

Can you, like put something on the stack, let it resolve, then cast something else (in a single phase or step). Or does priority take over here or something like that and weird mumbo-jumbo happen?

(Example) So, let's say I attack with a Plague Stinger, boost it up with a Titanic Growth, then wait for the growth to resolve, and after it resolves, I play a Might of the Masses on it. Is this legal? Or did I pass priority or something in there.

Does this actually have anything to do with priority at all?

Thanks!

This does refer to priority.

Every player must pass priority over an empty stack before the game can move to the next phase. In this situation, once Titanic Growth has resolved, you do get the opportunity to cast more Instants or activate abilities, instead of passing priority.

Also note that players gain priority between everything on the stack as it resolves too.

Thanks, Denial048. I'm a bit confuzzled, though. In the first line you say 'every player must pass priority' but then you say I don't have to pass priority, and I can play other Instants or Abilites after my Titanic Growth resolves?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what priority is?

By paraphrasing me you missed the point. You need to pass priority over an empty stack to move to the next phase. You can choose not to pass priority, instead casting a spell or activating an ability.

If you do pass priority as the active player, then the non-active player(s) pass priority, you no longer have a chance in that phase to activate or cast anything.

Ah, okay. Thanks for the clarification.
