Question about Narest

Asked by PTsmitty 9 years ago

I was wondering if the cards from Narset, Enlightened Master carries over to the next turn if not used? Does the "this turn" clause specify only the cards exiled this turn, or does it mean "this turn" you can play cards that have been exiled (including from previous turns)? For instance, I swing with Narest and exile Reverberate, but decide not to use it. Then on my next turn I exile Time Warp. Would I be able to play the reverberate with time warp? Also, am I able to play lands using her effect since they are a non-creature card. Just making sure I use her as a commander correctly. Thanks

You may only play the cards on the same turn they were exiled. So no Reverberate for you.

Lands are not creatures, but they are not casted out, so no extra lands either.

Okay, that is what someone said at my local shop, but wanted to make sure they were correct. Thanks for confirming for me.

No problem.

For any questions on cards you have, go to gatherer.wizards.com to look at rulings on certain cards. All you gotta do is type the name in

From the gatherer:

9/20/2014 The cards are exiled face up. Casting the noncreature cards exiled this way follows the normal rules for casting those cards. You must follow all applicable timing rules. For example, if one of the exiled cards is a sorcery card, you can cast it only during your main phase while the stack is empty.

9/20/2014 You cant play any land cards exiled with Narset.

9/20/2014 Because youre already casting the card using an alternative cost (by casting it without paying its mana cost), you cant pay any other alternative costs for the card, including casting it face down using the morph ability. You can pay additional costs, such as kicker costs. If the card has any mandatory additional costs, you must pay those.

9/20/2014 If the card has X in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as the value for X when casting it.

9/20/2014 Any exiled cards you dont cast remain in exile.

"Until end of turn, you may cast noncreature cards exiled with Narset this turn without paying their mana costs."

The first underlined clause, "until end of turn," specifies the duration for which the effect is valid. The second underlined clause, "noncreature cards exiled with Narset this turn," specifies the group of objects affected by the effect.

If a card isn't part of the group [noncreature cards exiled with Narset this turn], it isn't affected. Only cards exiled this turn can possibly be in that group.
