Protection vs. Polymorphist's Jest

Asked by zephramtripp 9 years ago

My opponent attacks with a 7/7 with protection from all colors from Spectra Ward. If I cast Polymorphist's Jest, can I block with a colored creature?

No you cannot. Both Spectra Ward and Polymorphist's Jest are applied in layer 6. Since they both apply in the same layer they are applied in time stamp order. So ward is applied then jest gets rid of all of the abilities. You will be left with a 1/1 with no abilities.

Yes. Polymorphist's Jest does not target, but Turn to Frog does.

Oh never mind.

Forgot that the aura was still attached.

I'm missing something? Poly removes all abilities so it won't have protection, and can be blocked by a coloured creature.

That said, it will be a 3/3, not a 1/1 due to layer 7+sublayers

No, snice the 7/7 already has protection from colors, colored spells can't target it, however, if you cast Polymorphist's Jest in response to Spectra Ward, you can avert the deadly 9/9 situation.

Poly doesn't target the creature, it targets the player.

Oops, I missed the +2/+2 bonus from ward. So there will actually be a vanilla 3/3 but everything else is the same.

With him being able to block with a coloured creature.

So, to be clear, I can block the 3/3 with a colored creature because of how things are layered. Got it.
