Protection for Angel

If I were to enchant a Empyrial Archangel w/ Spirit Mantle would it still be effected by deathtouch?

Considering Empyrial Archangel has shroud you would not be able to enchant it with Spirit Mantle or anything for that matter unless you somehow put it directly onto the field using Sun Titan , Venser, the Sojourner 's +2, or some other similar ability that doesn't cast it therefor allowing you to bypass any shroud or hexproof abilities. This is only because a spell is only a spell while being cast and enchantments do not target except for when they are actually cast (they enter attached to a creature). Or something like that...

To actually answer your question no, it wouldn't since the damage would be from a creature and any damage from creatures would be prevented.

Tunde has part of the answer.

Deathtouch is just an ability. Empyrial Archangel does not have protection from deathtouch and it is not indestructible.

Now, Spirit Mantle confers protection from creatures to Empyrial Archangel . Therefore, any damage that would be dealt to it by creatures is prevented regardless of whether the creature has deathtouch or not. Since the damage is prevented, deathtouch doesn't do anything.

Note, however, that if another source with deathtouch deals damage to Empyrial Archangel , Empyrial Archangel will die. Cards like Puncture Blast demonstrate that noncreature sources can still have damage-affecting abilities.

Tunde is correct in his analysis that Spirit Mantle cannot be cast targeting Empyrial Archangel . You will need to get it onto the creature via a noncast method.

u can cast Spirit Mantle on Empyrial Archangel cause i believe shroud is now hexproof, now i may be wrong Shroud (and now hexproof which has replaced it) is both a blue and green ability . got this from http://mtgcolorpie.com/2011/07/13/shroud-can-still-be-targeted-by-designers/

No shroud and hexproof are two separate abilities... That article was simply stating that they will no longer be printing cards with shroud on them. However shroud still is shroud on the cards that already have it. Hence this quote from it,

"It does not make sense supporting two mechanics that work that closely especially with different names. R&D spent a lot of time talking about it and decided to go with hexproof.

Note that this doesnt mean that shroud is changing to hexproof on cards that have it. Shroud will be supported much as we support any keyword mechanic were not currently using (like say fear). But for the present (I wont talk of the future because things can change), shroud is not being used on new cards.

Shroud was "replaced" by hexproof as the recurring keyword in new sets. Shroud was not errata'd to hexproof on existing cards.
