Protection and Day of Judgment?

Asked by WorkAround 13 years ago

if a creature has protection from white will it still be destroyed with day of judgement?

Yes. With protection, just remember you DEBT

Damage is prevented.

Enchanting/Equipping is prevented

Blocking is prevented

Targeting is prevented

Day of judgment just says "destroy all creatures" it isn't targeting and it isn't doing damage.

sarpnasty is absolutely correct. Though, on a similar vein, a popular board wipe card right now is Slagstorm , which protection from red will negate, as it is damage.

"Protection from red" is a shorthand way of stating the following four abilities, which are summed up in the DEBT acronym:

D) Prevent all damage that would be dealt to ~~ by red sources.

E) ~~ can't have red permanents attached to it. (Includes Auras, Equipment, and Fortifications)

B) ~~ can't be blocked by red creatures.

T) ~~ can't be the target of red spells or abilities from red sources.

So, there is actually a way that Slagstorm can damage a creature with protection from red--Leyline of Punishment , since the protection ability includes "Prevent all damage...", which the Leyline forbids.

Very much so, bcurran. Thankfully, I play standard primarily.
