Pro-red creature (Akroma, Angel of Wrath) vs Starstorm
Asked by Muglacious_NiceFaceToad 8 years ago
Does protection from red protect a creature such as Akroma, Angel of Wrath from the damage a card such as Starstorm deals? Does rule 702.16e apply? or is Starstorm considered to be more like a board wipe?...Does it need to be a card that says Destroy each creature to be a board wipe? (To be clear I am assuming that a red board wipe that would say destroy each creature would destroy a pro-red creature, yes?)
702.16e Any damage that would be dealt by sources that have the stated quality to a permanent or player with protection is prevented.

Destroy effects are not damage.
Protection from X is defined by DEBT:
can't be Dealt damage
can't be Enchanted
can't be Blocked
can't be Targeted
Starstorm deals damage, so a creature with pro-red would not be dealt anything.
On the other hand, pro-red would do nothing to save a creature from an Obliterate.
