Precursor Golem and Cackling Counterpart
Asked by Colten_Lee 10 years ago
So I recently made a deck based around Precursor Golem, and this scenario popped up during a playtest.
Precursor Golem on the battlefield with 2 3/3 Golems as per the effect. I then cast a Cackling Counterpart on Precursor and put a copy of all 3 golems out and then another 2 bc of the new Precursor. Now here's my question, when I flashback the Counterpart, would I copy it twice on every creature as there is now 2 Precursors out, and what would be the end result bc I'm uncertain.

Cackling Counterpart
Precursor Golem
Please link to cards you're asking about using TappedOut's card linking system. If you need help doing so check out the formatting tips page here.
When you target a Golem with two Precursor Golems out they will both trigger and copy the spell for every other Golem that spell could target. The "other" qualifier is important because the one you're targeting will only be copied once by the original spell while each other Golem will be copied twice by the Precursor Golems' triggered abilities forking the spell.
So in your example you have 2 Precursor Golems and 6 Golems. If you target a Precursor Golem with Cackling Counterpart then you get 3 more Precursor Golems (which will add 6 more Golems) and 12 more Golems, totaling 5 Precursor Golems and 24 Golems. If you target a non-Precursor Golem you get 4 more Precursor Golems (adding 8 more Golems) and 11 more Golems, totaling 6 Precursor Golems and 25 Golems, netting you 2 more Golems.
Now do it with Rite of Replication .

XD They were linked at the very top. But thanks for clarifying, so it'd be better for me to target a normal golem and not Precursor Golem .
I considered throwing Rite of Replication in but opted against it for now.

Sorry! Hadn't noticed you'd done the linking in the title. But yes, the moral of the story is to target one of the regular Golems when you have multiple Precursors out so that they can benefit from the multiple forks.

Cackling Counterpart would work like it should, except it would be Exiled instead of put into your graveyard due to Flashback.
That is, if you targeted a golem it would be copied for each other golem it could target and each copy would target one of those golems, meaning your new golems will also be hit and copied.
