Playing Dual-modal cards from exile
Asked by Ev1_ 3 years ago
If i exile a Spikefield Hazard Flip with Isochron Scepter, can i cast the land side? what about with a card like Chun-Li, Countless Kicks
realised that evolving door says cast, and therfor can be cast on eather side, so neither was what i was thinking off. seems the interaction i was thinking of (where you are allowed to cast a copy of a modal card) dosn't exist.

The copy will only have the characteristics of the front face and can only be cast as the front face. In all zones except the stack and battlefield MDFC only have the characteristics of their front face. Spells on the stack and permanents are always just copied since copies are made in the same zone as what they are copying. Therefore: when the copy is made the front is the face that will be copied.

As Gidgetimer said, Chun-Li doesn't allow you to cast the backside of a MDFC, because you are making a copy of the card and that copy only has its front fact.
However you are given the choice of which side to play/cast from exile with Evolving Door. But I think you knew this already.
seems the interaction i was thinking of (where you are allowed to cast a copy of a modal card) dosn't exist.
I don't understand how Chun-Li and Isochron Sceptre aren't exactly that? Is there something I'm missing about your question?

No, i think you understood the question perfectly, though even if the copy was dual-modal, you could not cast it as it is a land and not a spell.

Didnt realise Spikefield Hazard was a land on the other side, was moreso thinking of a card like Revel in Silence Flip and Evolving Door
