Playing Bioshift after blockers are declared

Asked by obitus 11 years ago

My friends are questioning if this move is legal:

I had two attackers, one of them was big and the other was a small 1/1. I also had a Gyre Sage with 6 counters on it. My opponent double blocks the big creature and lets the 1/1 gets through.

After blockers are declared and before combat damage is assigned I cast Bioshift from the Gyre Sage onto the 1/1 for six counters. Is this a legal move?

I was looking at the combat rules and I came across this"509.5. Fifth, the active player gets priority. Players may cast spells and activate abilities."

Yes. This is legal. After turn based actions are taken in each of the combat phase's steps (declaring attackers. declaring blockers), the active (attacking) player gets priority to cast spells and activate abilities. You can wait for your opponent to declate blockers and then use Bioshift .

Thanks Absinthman, I just wanted to get that clarified. After I get priority, say I pass on it. Then priority would get passed around like usual correct? I mean to ask that the Active player is not the only one who receives priority, he/she just gets it first?

Yes, the active player receives priority first and then other players get it, going clockwise.
