Pestilence and regeneration

Asked by Apoptosis 12 years ago

I've recently read that when damage is assigned through Pestilence or Pyrohemia that each time either card is activated it deals 1 distinctly point of damage.

So let's say I have out a card:Will-o'-the-Wisp. If I activate Pestilence three times to deal 3 damage to all creatures and players, does this mean I need to regenerate the card:Will-o'-the-Wisp 3x or just 1x?

The way I've interpreted the wording on Pestilence and regeneration, the wisp would have to be regenerated 3x in the above example. Is this correct?

Thanks again!

Yes. You have to remember to imagine "The Stack" when firing off Pestilence activations. Each individual activation goes on the stack a resolves independently. This of course means that before each one resolves there is a round of priority to respond; and afterwords state-based actions are checked before anyone gets priority again.

Also remember that Regeneration sets up a one-time replacement effect for the creature: the next time it would be destroyed, instead it removes all damage on the creature and gets tapped (and removed from combat, if applicable).

damn... thought so.

Same applies for combining Pestilence with a Greater Realm of Preservation too (i.e. I would have to protect for each point of Pestilence damage separately... ok, back to the drawing board
