New Split Cards

Asked by michaelehrlich 6 years ago

I was wondering about new split cards like Failure / Comply and Spring / Mind

If I cast Mind and then cast Failure will the card go back to my hand or get exiled?

It will go back to your hand.

Aftermath is an ability that functions from the graveyard similarly to Flashback. You can cast it from your graveyard for the cost of the second half, and when it resolves, it's exiled instead of going back to the graveyard. If it never resolves, it'll never get exiled from that cast. So if you return it to your hand with Failure then it won't get exiled since it never resolved.

It will get exiled.

Like Flashback, the full rules for Aftermath include the following: "If this spell was cast from a graveyard, exile it instead of putting it anywhereelse any time it would leave the stack."

702.126a Aftermath is an ability found on some split cards (see rule 708, "Split Cards"). It represents three static abilities. "Aftermath" means "You may cast this half of this split card from your graveyard," "This half of this split card can't be cast from any zone other than a graveyard," and "If this spell was cast from a graveyard, exile it instead of putting it anywhere else any time it would leave the stack."

Well, i like seeing the ruling. But what happens when Failure or Remand type effects return a spell to its owners hands?
