Mutate Mechanic and Guardian Project

Asked by Enral 4 years ago

If I were to cast a creature for its mutate cost, does it trigger ETB permanents like Guardian Project? The confusion is whether the card is just grafted onto an existing creature, hence I'm not sure if it truly enters the battlefield.

No, you don't get an ETB trigger from anything.

This was pulled directly off of the release notes page, which can be found here.

A mutating creature spell that resolves doesn't enter the battlefield. It simply merges with the target creature. As this happens, the controller of the mutating creature spell chooses whether to put it on top of the target creature or on bottom. Abilities that trigger whenever a creature enters the battlefield don't trigger.

Tylord2894 Thanks for the prompt answer. But cast triggers like Zendikar Resurgent works right?

That's correct.

Again from the release notes: A mutating creature spell is a creature spell, even if it won't enter the battlefield as a creature.

Since you cast a creature spell, anything that triggers because of that still triggers.
