Mind Control on my regenerable creature
Asked by Coopers_Disciple 8 years ago
Opponent casts Mind Control on my regenerable creature. So he cannot attack me, before spell resolves, I regenerate the creature, causing it to tap. Is this possible to regenerate a creature at full health, or does it have to be damaged first?

It doesn't quite work that way. Regenerating something (Drudge Skeletons, etc.) sets up a replacement effect that says "the next time this would be destroyed this turn, instead tap it, remove all marked damage from it, and remove it from combat". When you activate the regeneration ability nothing happens right away. The "regeneration shield" will only kick in the next time the creature would be destroyed this turn (and if it doesn't get destroyed this turn then the shield just goes away).

This has pretty much been covered but to reiterate: Regeneration does not tap the creature until it actually replaces the event of death. Control changing invokes Summoning Sickness. This is why cards like Act of Treason specifically give the creature haste, because otherwise the creature would never be able to attack or use tap abilities since they are only taken for the turn.

Yes, regenerate ability states "The next time [permanent] would be destroyed this turn, instead remove all damage marked on it and tap it. If it's an attacking or blocking creature, remove it from combat."So even if you pay regenerate cost, creature will remain untapped unless is destroyed. But don't worry. Even if someone steals your creature. This creature won't be able to attack because of summoning sickness (unless creature has haste)Since summoning sickness rule states "Player is not able to attack with a creature or to activate its abilities that include the tap symbol or the untap symbol unless the creature has been under that players control since the beginning of that players most recent turn"
Hope this information can help you
