Melira, Sylvok Outcast and -1/-1

hi, can my creature be kill by dismember if i have Melira, Sylvok Outcast on the field?

i just wanna confirm cos i understand dismember is not counted as counter so melira cant prevent it.. true?

Yes. Melira, Sylvok Outcast prevents -1/-1 counters. A Dismember, Dead Weight, or Grasp of Darkness may kill one of your creatures with Melira, Sylvok Outcast on the battlefield. They are not counters.

onthestack is right. An effect only uses counters if it specifically says it does. Dismember only gives a temporary -5/-5 effect.
