Lurrus of the Dream-Den and Adventure
Asked by legendofa 3 years ago
As I understand, a card like Hypnotic Sprite can be used in a deck that has Lurrus of the Dream-Den as a companion. But can Lurrus cast the adventure side, Mesmeric Glare, from the graveyard, or can it only be cast as a creature through Lurrus's ability? My interpretation is that Mesmeric Glare is an instant, not a permanent, so only the creature side can be cast this way, but I want to confirm this.
You're correct. Lurrus will only let you cast "a permanent spell with mana value 2 or less" from your graveyard, which disqualifies Mesmeric Glare two different ways, since it's a nonpermanent spell with mana value 3. See the ruling on adventure spells:
If you cast an adventurer card as an Adventure, use only its alternative characteristics to determine whether it’s legal to cast that spell. For example, if Giant Killer is exiled with the last ability of Vivien, Champion of the Wilds, you can’t cast it as Chop Down.

Your assumption is correct. The criteria for Lurrus's ability is that the spell you are casting is a permanent, not that any part of the card is a permanent. When casting an adventure, the only relevant part of the spell is the adventure half--you may pay no attention to the creature half.
