loyalty counters on a flip planes walker
Asked by Kornex2000 11 years ago
Ok so I have a card garruk the relentless and I was wondering what happens to his loyelty counters when he flips. Is it that he keeps his loyelty counters from his starting side of does he just not have any so there is no point in attacking him meaning the only way to kill his is Hero's Downfall , Dreadbore and other spells like that?

When a permanent is transformed, it remains the same permanent. Everything that was attached to it remains attached to it, and all counters stay where they are.
Also, planeswalkers are always put into their owner's graveyard when they have 0 loyalty counters. No exceptions. There's no such thing as an immortal walker.

haha that would be funny! ... what what if you were to put Indestructibility on him?

Indestructibility doesn't protect walker from being put into their owner's graveyards for having 0 loyalty counters. This is a state-based action and is not consider a "destroy" effect. Though creatures don't die to lethal damage if they are indestructible, loyalty counters are still removed from walkers when they are dealt damage.

He wouldn't be able to be destroyed by effects like Hero's Downfall . However, if he has zero counters on him, he dies.
Same thing as a creature whose toughness is reduced to zero. Even if its indestructible.

thanks you guys! I never used plans walkers so I don't really know all the rules about them.

Fliping, or in this context more correctly, transforming a permanent doesn't affect any counters it has on it. When you transform Garruk Relentless Flip , he will keep all the counters he had. No counters are added or removed during transformation.
