Lord of the Void in 2 headed giant
Asked by Fizzz 11 years ago
Hello!
In a 2 Headed Gian, if my Lord of the Void attacks and hits, which of my opponents exile the 7 cards? Both? My choice?
In 2HG, you are technically attacking individual players, but the life loss comes out of their team's shared life total, so whichever one you attack is the one you exile from. Keep in mind if your opponent has a Spear of Heliod out or something, then you can avoid it's activated ability by attacking the opponent who doesn't control it, however is you have lord out, you'll have to exile from their library if that is what you're doing.

During the combat damage step, when you assign damage for each creature to whichever player on the defending team. You can have one creature like Merfolk Spy deal damage to Opponent 1 and another creature like Lord of the Void deal its damage to opponent 2.
Assuming that these creatures were unblocked, the team would take 8 damage, 1 from Merfolk Spy and 7 from Lord of the Void .
This will result in Opponenet 1 revealing a card at random from his or her hand (from Merfolk Spy . While opponent 2 exiles the top seven cards of his or her library, then you put a creature card from among them onto the battlefield under your control (from Lord of the Void ).
810.7f As the combat damage step begins, the active team announces how each attacking creature will assign its combat damage. If an attacking creature would assign combat damage to the defending team, the active team chooses only one of the defending players for that creature to assign its combat damage to. Then the defending team announces how each blocking creature will assign its combat damage.

Well, sort of KingSorin, You attack the team as a whole during the declare attacker phase, it is not until the combat damage step that you choose which player takes the damage.
It doesn't matter most of the time but it can when cards like Teferi's Moat
are in effect. If you can't attack one of your opponents, then you can't attack the team. I included some of the rules, sometimes it's easier to understand if the rules are present.
810.7a Each teams creatures attack the other team as a group. During the combat phase, the active team is the attacking team and each player on the active team is an attacking player. Likewise, the nonactive team is the defending team and each player on the nonactive team is a defending player.
810.7c As the declare attackers step begins, the active team declares attackers. If an effect of an object controlled by a defending player prohibits a creature from attacking him or her, that creature cant attack the defending team. The active team has one combined attack, and that set of attacking creatures must be legal as a whole. See rule 508.1.
I hope this helps.

Would this apply the same way with me trying to Glimpse the Unthinkable a team with Witchbane Orb under one of their heads?

No. Glimpse the Unthinkable is a sorcery that can only target one player. You would have to choose the player without the Witchbane Orb , however.

You make the decision of which head the damage goes to at the time combat damage is assigned. Your choice, basically.
