Learn from the past/ accumulated knowledge troubles.

Asked by Mn-pegasus 9 years ago

Both of these cards are confusing. Basically, if I activate Learn from the past targeting me, does it shuffle itself back in? A similar question is does Accumulated knowledge 's second ability include itself?

Learn from the Past, Accumulated Knowledge.

No, as a spell is resolving it is not anywhere except the stack until it has fully resolved or otherwise been removed from the stack.

Learn from the Past does not shuffle itself because it is still resolving as the shuffle happens and therefore is not in the graveyard.

Accumulated Knowledge does not see itself in its own ability because, like before, it is not in the graveyard as its effects are resolving. It will however include any other spells named Accumulated Knowledge that are in graveyards.

Learn from the Past, Accumulated Knowledge

  1. No. The spell is still on the stack while the effect is resolving and shuffling your graveyard. It is not in the graveyard, so it will not be shuffled back. (compare to the text on Elixir of Immortality, it specifically says to shuffle the card as well.)

  2. No.

10/4/2004: The count does not include the card that is currently resolving. The card does not go to the graveyard until after it is done resolving.

So, for AC, you can draw this many cards:

1st cast - 1 card

2nd cast - 2 cards - 3 cards total

3rd cast - 3 cards - 6 cards total

4th cast - 4 cards - 10 cards total

Note that you don't activate Learn from the Past. "Activate" is used in reference to activated abilities, Learn from the Past is cast as a spell and then has an effect when it resolves.
