Launch the Fleet

Asked by ZSensei90 11 years ago

Sorry for the question, can I target the same creature multiple times with Launch the Fleet ?

The way I understand it is that you can, but it wouldn't stack so you would only get 1 soldier, unless you targeted it with multiple copies of Launch the Fleet. I could be wrong though.

Rules questions should be asked in the Q&A (linked in the header bar). I can't move it there, so we'll just put this in our new forum.

You cannot. You can only select the same object as a target once per instance of the word "target." Launch the Fleet uses the word "target" once in its effect, so each target must be unique. By comparison, Agony Warp can target the same object twice - once per instance of the word "target."

No.

Besides, heroic can only trigger once per spell; you can't use a single spell to trigger a heroic ability multiple times.

You might consider reading some MTGS wiki articles on the Theros mechanics, since it seems there may be some confusion here.

Now, with Launch the Fleet and Battlefield Thaumaturge you'd basically be targeting stuff for free, but it's still one target per creature. For example-

Battlefield Thaumaturge and six tokens. You cast Launch the Fleet. It will only cost you 1 white mana, but you target all seven creatures.

Curse of Swine and Battlefield Thaumaturge. Your opponent has a board of five huge creatures. You cast Curse of Swine. You only pay 2 blue mana, but you target all five creatures.

The MTGS Wiki is a decent place to start because it quotes from the Comprehensive Rulebook and has pages on almost everything you'd want to read about Magic.

You could also do a Google search for mechanics articles or release notes. Generally, WOTC posts those documents in the weeks leading up to prerelease/release as a way of helping players understand the mechanics ahead of time.
