Is damage the same as life loss?

Asked by UpperDeckerTaco 11 years ago

Let's say I have an Exquisite Blood in play and attack and deal damage, does Exquisite Blood 's ability trigger?

Not the same, but damage causes loss of life, so the Blood will trigger.

So basically it is but it isn't?

Life loss is the most common result of damage dealt to a player. There are situations where life loss is caused by something other than damage (Arid Mesa , Shadow Slice , etc.), and there are even some situations where dealing damage causes something other than life loss (Platinum Emperion , the Infect mechanic). Any time a player's life total goes down for any reason it counts as life loss, and Exquisite Blood will trigger.

Like I said, one causes the other. The reverse is not true, though - if something triggers on damage, something that causes loss of life directly won't work. A Tormented Hero with lifelink will not trigger lifelink via his heroic ability.

Well lifelink is via combat damage.

Lifelink gives life for any damage, not just combat damage.
