Interaction between Araumi of the Dead Tide and Elrond, Lord of Rivendell (and with Inga Rune-Eyes)
Asked by CamraMaan 1 year ago
Say I use Araumi of the Dead Tide to encore Elrond, Lord of Rivendell with three opponents... due to the legendary rule, two of the three copies will be sacrificed on entering the battlefield, but all three will still see each other entering the battlefield, so I would scry 1 nine times, correct? But what about the "Ring tempts you" triggers...? Do I get three of them, or just one from the surviving token?
Now let's say I have four opponents and Inga Rune-Eyes gets encored by Araumi... three of the token copies will be sacrificed when they ETB from the legendary rule, but all four copies will have a scry 3 trigger going on the stack. But then will each also trigger on the three token creatures dying that turn? Will they each see the other three die and trigger to draw three cards? Or will just the surviving token trigger? My assumption is that they all see each other ETB and die, so all will trigger for card draw on top of scry 3 triggers, and I'll get to arrange all those triggers however I want, correct?
And I assume the general outcome is no different if I have only three opponents when I encore Inga, but I encore after another creature has already died, so the two tokens that get sacrificed total three creature deaths on the turn. All the copies will trigger on three deaths, correct?

For Elrond: Each token will trigger 3 times because of the 3 creatures entering the battlefield, for a total of 9. The check on how many times the trigger has resolved is part of the triggered ability itself, not a separate static ability of Elrond, so it will be applied even if Elrond isn't on the battlefield as it resolves. Each Elrond only tracks its own triggers, meaning you'll be tempted a total of 3 times, one from each Elrond.
For Inga: Inga's second ability triggers whenever she dies and then figures out the result later. Because it's not written in an "intervening 'if' clause" format ("When [event], if [condition], [effect]") that means it will still be put onto the stack even if 3 creatures haven't died yet. Even if it was written that way, you would still get the triggers in these examples because of everyone dying simultaneously due to the Legend Rule. You get to choose the order of all the ETB and dies triggers because they're all trying to go onto the stack at the same time, since the Legend Rule gets evaluated right before it's time to put the initial ETBs onto the stack. All the dies triggers will count at least 3 deaths in your examples and will give you cards.
