Instant speed birthing pod
Asked by xo2 13 years ago
If I control Birthing Pod and Leyline of Anticipation out, and my creature is targeted with, say Doom Blade , can I use Birthing Pod to sac it in response?
I ask this because on the pod it says anytime I could cast a sorcery, and I can cast a sorcery anytime.
307.5. If a spell, ability, or effect states that a player can do something only any time he or she could cast a sorcery, it means only that the player must have priority, it must be during the main phase of his or her turn, and the stack must be empty.
So, you can only use something like Birthing Pod when the stack is empty, on your turns' main phase. You are also confusing instant speed with sorcery. Instants can be cast at anytime you have priority while sorceries are only on your turn when you have priority, and the stack is empty, during your main phase.

In addition, Leyline of Anticipation only gives the cards in your hand Flash, or if you have a card which allows you to cast from the top of your deck (such as card:Garruk's Horde ) only those cards which you CAST have flash and can be cast anytime you can cast an instant. Abilities of permanents on the field are not affected by the leyline.

it also says cast meanying you have to pay its casting cose and play it normaly
now if it said "you may activate abilitys as though it (had flash/anytime you could play an instant)" then you could do that

I see, I was really hoping I could use the pod at instant speed, because of Leyline of Anticipation .
Thanks for the help!

No. Cards you control have flash, not effects of cards you control. It is a different concept.
