Inspired question: P-B Raiders

Asked by thewyzman 11 years ago

My question refers to Pheres-Band Raiders :

Q: Can the Inspired ability be activated more than once? I assume Yes?

I've got a Karametra's Acolyte , so in the case of a strong devotion count, could I pay the 2G more than once?

It says, when [this creature] untaps, but it doesn't say, Activate this ability only once each turn.

Inspired is an triggered ability - every time the creature untaps, the ability is triggered and put on the stack, then you are given the option to pay 2G. If you do, you get a token, if you don't nothing happens. It is only one trigger though, so you get one instance of the trigger only when the creature untaps - that is one of the the requirement that has to be met

My understanding is that you can only activate the ability once for each time you untap it in a turn.

So you'll need to make use of some way to fiddle with tapping, and then untapping it again (Hidden Strings for instance) in order to get a another shot at activating the inspired ability.

First of all, this isn't an activated ability, but a triggered one. Triggered abilities are put onto the stack when certain conditions are met and they are put there only once per such event. The ability of Pheres-Band Raiders allows an optional payment of 2G when it resolves, but you can only pay once, because the ability only asks you "do you want to pay 2G now?", and the only possible answers are yes or no. There is no option to say "yes, but I'd like to pay multiple times". Also, the ability will not ask you this question again until next time that the Centaur untaps.

When Gatecrash was released, there was an abundance of very similar questions regarding the Extort ability, which works exactly the same. You can only pay once per extort trigger. Here you can only pay once per inspired trigger.
