Infinite/Infinite Creature vs. Infinite Creatures

Asked by GoldGhost012 11 years ago

I have an infinite/infinite Lotleth Troll . My opponent has infinite 1/1 Sliver tokens. When I attack with my Troll, my opponent declares he's multi-blocking it with infinite Sliver tokens.

How exactly does this work? Will all his Sliver tokens die? Will he still have an infinite or finite number of tokens left? Will my Troll deal damage?

There's no such thing as infinity. When you do whatever it is that you did to make give your Lotleth Troll "infinite" P/T, you actually have to choose a finite number, like 100 billion or something.

The same thing applies to the sliver tokens.

and if you're both actively making tokens and growing the troll at the same time, It's the Active player that is required to break that loop

716.3. Sometimes a loop can be fragmented, meaning that each player involved in the loop performs an independent action that results in the same game state being reached multiple times. If that happens, the active player (or, if the active player is not involved in the loop, the first player in turn order who is involved) must then make a different game choice so the loop does not continue.

There is no concept of "infinite" in MTG. When you have an opportunity to repeat some kind of process indefinetely, you have to specify a finite number of times you do so.

In this case, let's say your troll is 1000/1000. You attack, your opponent blocks with 1000 sliver tokens. Before damage, there is a round of priority passed during which time, you can activate the troll again, making him 1001/1001 or higher.

There is no such thing as 'infinite/infinite' in Magic unless the effect causing the increase is unstoppable by both players (at which point the game will end in a draw).

At some point a player is forced to choose an arbitrary number at which to stop. In this situation whomsoever chose the larger number (probably the player who got to choose their number second) will have the advantage in this situation.

So in MTG an infinite loop is actually a really really really really really high number. Like a googol or a googolplex.

assuming all the things that lead to the creation of the tokens/ troll power are instant speed and repeatable since as people have already stated you must name a finite number then at the end of the declare blockers stage you can pump your troll up enough to trample through for lethal. If the effect is not repeatable just name Graham's Number as your finite number since it is the largest named number. although this will probably lead to people who you play with naming (Graham's Number)(Graham's Number) but I digress.

... I don't understand Graham's Number. I think I'll just stick to googolplex. Thanks guys!

An infinite loop must end in a draw. Most "infinite" combos are actually not infinite.

It is an impossibly large number with over a googolplex digits. Nothing needs to be that large, I usually find 5000 to be more than large enough for most purposes when naming a number for an "infinite" combo as anyone who can withstand that many iterations of anything can withstand as many as I care to name. But go with what ever number you find the most pleasing.

I usually just go with the factorial of the US national debt.

Epochalyptik, that's so cruel to your opponent... Then again I guess it's not as big as googolplex... Yet.
