Indestructible....

Can a card like Executioner's Swing kill an indestructible creature?

Heck yeah. Indestructible doesnt die to damage or destroy but is susceptible to exile and negative defense.

Yes. Indestructible stops only effects that use the word destroy and death due to lethal damage. It can still die if its toughness is reduced to 0, or if it sacrificed, and it can still be exiled or bounced to hand.

Ways to get rid of an Indestructible Creature:

1.) Exile it.

2.) Give it 5 -1/-1 Counters or temporary toughness reduction (Like Executioner's Swing )

3.) Cyclonic Rift

4.) Tear the card into little pieces when the opponent isn't looking

Yup. What indestructible does (surprisingly) is prevent things from being destroyed, whether by a "destroy" effect or by lethal damage. Executioner's Swing does not deal damage, nor does it destroy. Instead, it just lowers the stats of the creature (let's say it's a Phylactery Lich for the way the stats match up). So, the Phylactery Lich attacks and then you use Executioner's Swing on it, which would turn it into a 0/0. No damage has been dealt (except by the Phylactery Lich ), and no "destroy" effect took place.

Then, the game check to see if there's anything it can clean up. There! It's a 0/0 creature! It goes into the graveyard as a state-based action. No destruction, no damage, none of that. It just dies because it was cleared away by the game.

Does that make sense?

This trick is also very helpful when playing against an EDH deck that someone tosses in Avacyn, Angel of Hope . You cast Black Sun's Zenith for 8 and she gets eight -1/-1 counters. Granted Infect/Wither and Neg effects aren't the same, they essentially are for the turn.

Ok so say a 5/5 creature attacks me. If I use Executioner's Swing in response the damage. Would it not only kill the creature and render it's attack (damage included) ineffective? Or do I get dealt the 5 damage prior to the executioner's swing killing it??

Btw thanks everyone!!!

You take the damage first.
