When executing a spell or ability you follow the order written on the card. In this example you'll exile Rampaging Ferocidon, then try to gain 2 life. Assuming there is no effect stopping the exile that will work fine (I can't honestly think of what would). Then, assuming there's no effect stopping the life gain (like a second Rampaging Ferocidon) you'll gain 2 life.
