If you cast a Nicol Bolas Card (Creature) And the planeswalker Will they both be destroyed?
Asked by Levelepic27 10 years ago
So me and my friends are playing EDH and this happens. One of them sends out Nicol Bolas AND The walker. So i'm still wondering what happens.
Despite the oddity, from a rules stand point nothing happens.
Planeswalkers have their own rules for multiples called the planeswalker uniqueness rule which only looks at the planeswalker type not the name. So you can't have both Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Jace Beleren in play, but it doesn't interact with creatures which have their own legendary rules.
Will they both be destroyed?
Note that even if this was the case both would not be destroyed, the legendary rules were changed recently so that it only comes into effect when you have two of the same on your side. If you do you have to choose one to keep and the other goes to the graveyard. Your opponent can also have the same legendary in play as you now.

As a note, the legend rule never destroys anything. The extra permanents are simply put into their owner's graveyard as a state-based action. Same for the planeswalker uniqueness rule.

The legend rule and the Planeswalker uniqueness rule only aplies to legendary creatures with the exact same name and to Planeswalkers with the same subtype. So apart from a big flavour fail nothing is wrong with this play. Also please link all cards in your question.
