If a spell copies a permanent would the copy have all the same abilitiies?
Asked by Antares 14 years ago
my question is this:if a permanent is copied by a card and 1 or more tokens are made from it, do those tokens have the same effects?
example: Rite of Replication used on Taurean Mauler , next turn opponent plays a spell. do the tokens have the same ability as the original and gain +1/+1 counters?

Just wanted to clarify that second part a bit, the tokens won't get the abilities that aren't on the base card. Any bonuses from equipments or auras do not carry over, but they still get whatever the original creature had by default.

And a last point to note; if you use Rite of Replication on the Taurean Mauler when it got 3 +1/+1 counters, the copy(ies) of it will still be 2/2 since copying a permanent does not copy the counters on the permanent that is being copied.

@ supernick
While tokens generally do have CMC 0, tokens that are COPIES of a given card inherit the mana cost among other things. So in this case, the tokens will have CMC 3.

Yes. The token will be an exact copy of Taurean Mauler . It will be a red creature card, with a CMC of 3 with a power and toughness of 2/2 and the same abilities as the original.
However, if you grant the original Taurean Mauler different abilities (say, with Lightning Greaves , the tokens won't get these abilities.
Hope this was helpful.
