Hunt the Hunter

Asked by Tronacus 11 years ago

I have a couple questions about Hunt the Hunter.First Must both ability be used in order for my creature to get the +2/+2? So if my opponent controls no green creature is the card just a waste of space? Also does this tap Mine, both or no creatures? And does this start my combat phase Or will this be done outside my combat phase?

Hunt the Hunter can only be cast if BOTH you and your opponent control a green creature, as you need to declare both targets at the time you cast it. This means that, unless your opponent has green creatures, it is a dead card.

Fights are not part of combat. It is a seperate mechanic that makes the two creatures deal damage to each other equal to their power, but does not cause them to tap liking attacking would. Generally, Fight is done outside combat, but you can use it within the combat phase if you wish, though as shawnzeedyk mentioned, you would need to give Hunt the Hunter some way to be cast then, like Quicken .

If you want Hunt the Hunter for the Fight mechanic, Pit Fight would probably be better, if you want it for the boost, there are many better options. Hunt the Hunter is an extremely limited sideboard option.

You must be able to target both a green creature you control and a green creature an opponent controls to cast this spell. However, if your opponent's creature becomes an illegal target, your creature will still get +2/+2. This means the card is a waste of space if your opponent is not playing a green deck.

None of the creatures will be tapped.

Hunt the Hunter is a sorcery, so short of a flash effect like Quicken or Hypersonic Dragon , it can only be cast outside of combat. Casting the spell does not start your combat phase, it will resolve entirely separately from the turn structure.
