How much life does a Trostani give when a Serra Avatar enters?

So my favorite commander is Trostani, Selesnya's Voice. It's my first deck, but I added Serra Avatar to the deck and I'm not sure how the interaction works.
So, with Trostani, when the creature enters you gain life equal to the creature's toughness, but, since Serra Avatar's life total is dependent on your life total, I'm not sure what to do when it enters.
How I've been playing it is that Serra Avatar sees your life total when it enters, causing Trostani to give you that much life and making the Avatar bigger before it is officially on the field. I just want to be sure if this is right.

Serra Avatar will check your life total when it enters the battlefield as a static ability (does not use the stack) then Trostani will see the Avatar ETB, and trigger, giving you life.
Finally, Avatar's static ability will check again, and its P/T will go up to match. (you won't gain more life as it has already ETB.)

Essentially your life total will double when Trostani, Selesnya's Voice's ability resolves, which will normally be only once, shortly after Serra Avatar enters the battlefield. You could copy the ability (with Strionic Resonator) or trigger it an additional time (with Panharmonicon) to double your life multiple times. At any given point Serra Avatar's power and toughness will be equal to your current life total.

crud, must have read that four times before I posted, but there is a mistake. Serra Avatar's P/T (not life total) is based on your life total
