How does Entreat The Angels work?
Asked by Exzliete 12 years ago
I just wanna know how it works. I do not understand how hard casting AND miracle casting it works.
if you payed 6WWW you would get 3 angels if it was not cast for its miracle cost

When you hardcast Entreat the Angels:
You choose how much X will be.
The cost you will have to pay is X plus X plus WWW. For example, if you want 2 4/4 Angels, you pay 2 plus 2 plus WWW, which equals 4WWW. If you want 3 4/4 Angels, you pay 3 plus 3 plus WWW, which equals 6WWW.
After paying the cost, you get X Angels.
To miracle-cast Entreat the Angels:
You draw Entreat the Angels.
You reveal it.
You choose how much X will be.
You pay X plus WW. If you want 2 4/4 Angels, you pay 2WW. If you want 3 4/4 Angels, you pay 3WW.
After paying the cost, you get X Angels.

Epochalyptik, am I understanding you correctly when you say that a Miracle cost will only be paid if the spell actually resolves? So, if an opponent counters Entreat the Angels (Miracled), no mana will be tapped?

No, casting a spell via its Miracle cost is only an alternative cost to casting the spell, just like casting a spell with flashback, you are paying an alternative cost to casting it.
Therefore, it follows all the same rules as casting a spell:
Put it on the stack
Declare modes, targets, X values, etc.
Pay the casting cost
Thus, if it gets countered, you'd still have paid its Miracle cost, so mana will still be spent regardless.

@Deetoz He was talking about the ability that triggers when the Miracle card is revealed. When that triggered ability resolves, then you get the option of casting the spell, and you go through the normal casting process (except for the mana cost being replaced by the Miracle cost). If your opponent is somehow able to counter the triggered ability (Voidslime , Stifle ), then you wouldn't get the option to cast the spell for the Miracle cost.

When you cast a spell, you may choose to pay either its mana cost or a valid alternative cost. Entreat the Angels has a mana cost of XXWWW and a miracle cost of XWW. Miracle costs are alternative costs.
If you draw Entreat the Angels and it's the first card you drew that turn, you may reveal it (BEFORE putting it into your hand) and state that you are putting its triggered miracle ability onto the stack. Then, when that ability resolves, you may cast Entreat the Angels by paying XWW.
If you opt not to cast Entreat the Angels this way, you may cast it for its mana cost any time you could normally cast it. Only one cost is paid on casting.
