How does Anafenza, the Foremost exile replacement effect interact with Grenzo, Dungeon Warden ?
Asked by AlexoBn 8 years ago
In my opinion the card would never enter the graveyard and so it sort of switches off the Grenzo strategy but I am absolutely unsure about it
Contrary to what I would intuitively assume, there's a rule that states that Grenzo's effect will still work without problems:
400.7g A resolving spell or activated ability can perform actions on an object that moved from one zone to another while that spell was being cast or that ability was being activated, if that object moved to a public zone.
I suppose cards that care whether a card is still in a certain zone, such as Animate Dead, are specifically written that way.

Thanks a lot for your fast response. So grenzo will continue to be a tough matchup sometimes :)

Im assuming the boardstate would be something along the lines of you controlling Anafenza, the Foremost and your opponent controls Grenzo, Dungeon Warden
Your opponent then activates Grenzos abilty. I believe the interaction would be that Grenzo's ability would attempt to put the card into the graveyard and it would end up in exile, then it would check if that card is a creature card, and if it is then that card would be put onto the battlefield, otherwise that card is left in exile.
I would wait for another answer since I do find this a slightly novel interaction.
