How do multiple Undead Alchemists resolve?

Asked by thedemonsday 12 years ago

If I have two Undead Alchemist s on the field and a zombie I control deals one damage to my opponent would it mill for two? Also if one of the cards I milled was a creature would I get two zombie tokens instead of one?

Multiple triggered instances happen, so they each take up a spot on the stack. so one alchemists' ability resolves, pitching however much damage happened in the form of milling, and for each creature card that gets dumped, each alchemist triggers for the exile and 2/2 token. So yeah, you mill twice and get 2x Zombies per critter tossed in this way.

Note though that this is combat damage only, so you need to be attacking to get the milling effect. i dont know of zombies that ping for damage, but if they exist, then the alchemist won't help there.

The first ability is a replacement effect. If two or more replacement effects you control could be used to replace an effect, you choose which one replaces it. Note: if the new effect can be replaced by another effect, a second replacement occurs... but that's not the case here.

You would choose one replacement, and with either one, the damage becomes 'put that many cards from the top of that players library into hi/her graveyard'. - This will only happen once each time a zombie would deal combat damage to a player.

The second ability is a triggered ability. Each time a creature card is 'milled' into a grave, it would trigger on both, and you would get two 2/2 zombie tokens.

Gah, Ray is right; sorry for leading you astray on the first part of it. I didn't have my brain on and read it as a trigger, not a replacement. My bad.

Phenax, God of Deception will make them mill, but it wouldn't trigger the first part in this ability, meaning they'd only have to mill once... Still it's powerful though, after a while throw on top of it Lich Lord of Unx and you can get zambies about turn five and have killed them at least by turn ten.
