Hero of Bladehold and Battalion
Asked by CamperCarl00 12 years ago
I'm pretty sure this has been answered before, but it's an issue that, once again, has come up in games I've played. So for the record:
Would the Battalion of Frontline Medic proc from the tokens that are produced from Hero of Bladehold or similar effects like Kaalia of the Vast ? This is assuming that otherwise there are not enough creatures to proc Battalion.
Battalion only triggers when three or more creature are declared as attackers. Hero of Bladehold 's tokens just happen to enter the battlefield attacking. They were never declared attackers.

Always check the Oracle text for the cards in question. In this case, Hero of Bladehold has the following ruling:
6/1/2011: Although the tokens are attacking, they never were declared as attacking creatures (for purposes of abilities that trigger whenever a creature attacks, for example).
Additionally, "whenever X attacks" means "whenever X is declared as an attacker."
Because battalion abilities only trigger based on the number of creatures declared as attackers, they don't count creatures that are put onto the battlefield attacking.

No, HoB places the tokens already attacking, so they never get declared, so batallion never triggers off of them.
