Heliod's creature token

Asked by piffguru 11 years ago

So does the white cleric enchantment token Cleric from Heliod, God of the Sun mean that I can choose to attach it to something to give 2/1 or just enter as a 2/1 creature?

Also if it can be attached to a creature, would the act of attaching it trigger a heroic ability (i'm thinking no because its from a creature which would make it an ability not a spell right?)

Last it specifies that its a white cleric token.. is that just so things like protection white would still work or can this token actually give white devotion (again i'm thinking no cause its still a token but just checking)

Heliod, God of the Sun says you put a 2/1 white Cleric enchantment creature token onto the battlefield. It doesn't say anything about that token being an aura, so it isn't. You can't attach it to anything. The token also doesn't have a mana cost, so it can't contribute to devotion.

The token does not have the keyword ability 'enchant creature', so it will function just like a normal creature token - you can't attach it to anything (just like any Bestow creature not played for its Bestow cost).

Heroic only triggers from spells that target, and you are correct that abilities are not spells. It's irrelevant anyway since the tokens don't enchant anything.

Tokens have no mana cost (unless they are a copy of something), and therefore do not contribute to your devotion. The tokens are indeed white and will interact accordingly with objects that have protection from white.

ok thats what I was thinking.. my friend kept swearing that because it was an enchantment creature token that it could be used as an enchantment.

@piffguru

Keep in mind that non-aura enchantments don't actually enchant anything. Take Spear of Heliod for example.

very true.. my question is why call the token an enchantment creature, the spear is an enchantment because of its first line I believe. if not for the buff it would most likely just be an legendary artifact. so I dont get why not just have cleric be a creature token.

The multi-type enchantments are unique to Theros. They're meant to represent things from Nyx, the God realm of Theros.

The fact that the token is an enchantment means it can be destroyed by things like Naturalize . There's also Polis Crusher that has protection from the tokens because they are enchantments.
