Grafdigger's Cage and Possibility Storm
Asked by peppermintlarry 11 years ago
I have a Grafdigger's Cage and a Possibility Storm in play. Is that a hard lock, as in no one can resolve spells for the remainder of the game? Also what happens if I cast a creature (or any card for that matter) from my hand? The creature card is exiled while on the stack from Possibility Storm then I exile cards from the top of my library until I reveal a creature card, I may play that card but Grafdigger's Cage prevents me from casting cards from my library. What happens to the creature card I revealed?

It is a hard lock because Possibility Storm exiles the spell, then instructs the player to take an illegal action. Players are prevented from casting cards in their libraries, so Possibility Storm ends up exiling the spell and giving the player nothing.
The cards revealed this way (including the one you would normally cast) are all put on the bottom of their owner's library in a random order.

I think I can work with this...I'm going to toy around with this idea for a little bit. Could be awesome for Grixis mill

you are not casting the card from the library, you are casting it from exile

Doesn't Possibility Storm cast the spell from exile, Epochalyptik?

Good catch; I didn't even notice that. So yes, you could actually cast the card revealed by Possibility Storm .

The spell is being cast from exile, not the library so Grafdigger's Cage doesn't care. Curse of Exhaustion on the other hand cares very much and does cause a lock on your opponent only.
If you think about it a bit a combo of a 5 cmc enchantment with a 1 cmc artifact is extremely competitive (not to mention both cards on their own can act as hate against reanimator and revelation decks), you essentially only need to get them out then Nephalia Drownyard your opponent to death. These two cards wouldn't be junk rare bin cards, but instead become a highly competitive archetype.

No MTNman, Grafdigger's cage is only on the stack when you cast it, before it resolves.

Curse of Exhaustion then Possibility Storm .
Your opponent can now no longer cast spells, as the their first spell is exiled and they can only play one spell a turn.
