Goblin Electromancer + Comet Storm?
Asked by gommer556 11 years ago
I understand that when you cast an X spell you declare the number and the total cost is reduced by 1 colorless, but in Comet Storms case is the multikicker free?? How does kicker factor into the overall cost of the card?
So say i have 8 mana open, i can either Comet Storm for 7 or do it for 6 and kick it?

Goblin Electromancer
, Comet Storm
When you will want to cast Comet Storm , you will need to annouce how you intend to cast it. In this case let's say you want to pay X=6 and kick it twice. This will mean you will have to pay a total of 8RR. What Goblin Electromancer will do is simply reduce the cost of that sorcery by 1, meaning you will cast a Comet Storm of X=8 and 2 Multikick for 7RR.
A kicker cost is part of the cost and still is affected by any cost modification effect.

Goblin Electromancer
Comet Storm
Kickers are an additional cost. They're part of the spell's total casting cost.
TCC = [mana cost OR alternate cost] + [additional/increased costs] - [cost reductions]
You use that formula to determine how much you actually have to pay. Kickers are added up in the second "field," then cost reductions apply to the collective cost.
You only apply Goblin Electromancer 's reduction once. It will reduce the colorless requirement of the entire spell by 1, but only once. It doesn't reapply for any reason.

Battlefield Thaumaturge can make the kicker (when targeting creatures this is), essentially go away.

No, I don't think so. It's just subtracted from the total cost.
