Glorious End interactions

Asked by MrFantabulous 2 years ago

So I recently asked a question about Academy Rector and Glorious End and the interaction about the exiling of Academy Rector where it was said that Academy Rector would just go to my graveyard with Glorious end casted/

But this last go, I had Razaketh, the Foulblooded out, sacrificing my Academy Rector to it. Then my opponent casted Glorious End .

He argued that I don't get a card draw or the exile ability. But I am fairly certain that Razaketh, and Academy Rectors are technically different stacks. Because of the wording on Academy Rectors, so he can either.

I told him I'd still get to search my library, but he could send Academy Rectors to my graveyard, he assumed that my sacrifice would happen, and "in response" I would use Academy Rectors exile ability, but I told him those were seperate, as I can't exile Academy Rectors until it hits my graveyard, then I get the option.

Am I correct, as in he could stop the Academy Rectors ability but not the search with this, at which point Academy Rector would just go into my graveyard?

Your opponent was correct. When you sacrifice Academy Rector to pay the cost of Razaketh, the Foulblooded's ability, the Rector's ability triggers and goes onto the stack on top of Razaketh's ability (there's only one stack; it's one of the game's zones, like the battlefield or exile). Your opponent responds with Glorious End, so it goes onto the top of the stack. Glorious End starts resolving first and removes both the Rector's trigger and Razaketh's activation from the stack. Neither of them resolve.

So the sacrifice wouldn't have happened either correct, or does that still happen as it's part of the cost of the ability?

MrFantabulous Glorious End exiles all spells and abilities from the stack, but as you said the sacrifice is only a cost, not an effect. So here's what happens, play-by-play style:

You activate Razaketh, the Foulblooded, sacrificing Academy Rector. Because the sacrifice is part of his activation cost, Razaketh's ability hasn't resolved yet, and is sitting on the stack--under the Rector trigger.

So when your opponent casts Glorious End, both abilities are exiled from the stack, but you've already sacrificed the Rector so that doesn't get reversed.
