Glistening Oil and upkeep

Asked by cryptichorror 13 years ago

Glistening OilMTG Card: Glistening Oil says something like, at the beginning of YOUR upkeep, put a -1/-1 counter on enchanted creature. Whose's upkeep? If I cast Glistening OilMTG Card: Glistening Oil and enchant an opponent's creature, does the -1/-1 counter go on during my upkeep or theirs? Also, who controls Glistening OilMTG Card: Glistening Oil at that point?

The enchantment is under the control of whoever put it on the board. "Your Upkeep" refers to the controller of the permanent so Glistening OilMTG Card: Glistening Oil triggers on whoever put the enchantment on the boards upkeep. (Yours if you enchant your opponents creature.)

Penumbra is right. The enchanment belongs to whoever cast the spell, unless something like ::Volition Reins:: took it over.

TL;DR - It's your upkeep.

@ S3L3KA: Technically, the enchantment belongs to whoever put it onto the battlefield. Usually, that player is the one who cast it, but there are times when it does actually matter (SpelljackMTG Card: Spelljack, enchantments entering that weren't cast, etc.)

Sorry, CommandeerMTG Card: Commandeer, not SpelljackMTG Card: Spelljack.
