Flash creatures in response?

Asked by TheWoogaknight 11 years ago

Situation:

In 2HG my partner has a Prophet of Kruphix , during the opponents turn they target the Prophet of Kruphix with a card that would destroy it (like Murder ), in response can my partner throw a creature out?

I'm only guessing he can't, but I don't have a clue.

Yes, he can. This is no different in 2HG than in any other format. If a player controls Prophet of Kruphix and somebody casts Murder on it, the player with the Prophet may cast creatures in response to the Murder . A player can respond to spells with instants, abilities that work at instant speed, and non-instant cards with flash, and the Prophet lets its controller cast creature spells as though they had flash.

BONUS: If the Prophet player flashes in a card like Elgaud Shieldmate and uses it to give the Prophet hexproof, shroud, or protection from black, then the Murder will be countered for having an illegal target.

Well, abilities that say "you can do _" mean just the card's controller. The only shared resources in 2HG are life and poison counters, so he couldn't. Aside from that, Murder is targetted removal so it doesn't work anyway.

I'm assuming you meant to save the prophet.

Note that he could counter the spell in response.

Disregard, misread who controlled the prophet too....

No, we're just seeing if he can cast creatures before the prophet dies from murder. We know the prophet is going to die, we just want to see if we can get full use of our prophet before he's gone.

Flash means he can cast a creature at instant speed, so casting a creature in response to the murder puts in on the stack before the removal resolves and the prophet is moved to the yard, unless they cast murder on it again in response to the flashed in creature.

@fluffybunnypants: Even if Prophet of Kruphix is destroyed in response to the flashcast, the creature spell will still resolve.
