Feather and spell that i do not own?

I have a question about weird interaction.
I have cast Mnemonic Betrayal . Then I cast Feather, the Redeemed from my opponent's graveyard and I cast for example Defiant Strike from opponent's graveyard targeting Feather, the Redeemed .
Defiant Strike gets exiled due Feather, the Redeemed ability. What happens at the end step? Ability of Feather, the Redeemed says that spell should return to my hand, but I do not own that spell.
What happens then? Ability do not resolve or something?

"If you cast an instant or sorcery spell that you don’t own, it won’t try to be put into your graveyard, so you won’t exile it with Feather’s effect or return it to your hand. "
