End of turn spell priority

Asked by Baconfish 6 years ago

How does it work if I have several effects that all do something at the end of turn?

Say for example I have Saheeli Rai and a Hidden Stockpile in play. I choose to use Saheeli Rai to copy a Panharmonicon and I use Hidden Stockpile to sacrifice a creature and trigger its revolt ability.

Now come the end of the turn, do I then get to choose in which order the two abilities resolve? Can I force the servo to spawn before the Panharmonicon copy is exiled?

You control how these triggers are put on the stack, as you control them. You will want to put Saheeli Rai's exile effect on the stack first, then put Hidden Stockpile's effect on the stack. The stack resolves in the opposite order, so Hidden Stockpile will resolve first.

Rule 603.3b:

If multiple abilities have triggered since the last time a player received priority, each player, in APNAP order, puts triggered abilities he or she controls on the stack in any order he or she chooses. (See rule 101.4.) Then the game once again checks for and resolves state-based actions until none are performed, then abilities that triggered during this process go on the stack. This process repeats until no new state-based actions are performed and no abilities trigger. Then the appropriate player gets priority.

Great, then it works as expected.

Then I could also trigger the revolt effect in the end step by allowing Saheeli Rai's effect to trigger first?

That would not work. Revolt has an "if" clause causing it to trigger only if the condition has already been met.

Ruling on Hidden Stockpile dated February 9, 2017:

All cards in the Aether Revolt set with triggered revolt abilities use an intervening if clause. A permanent you controlled must have left the battlefield earlier in the turn in order for these abilities to trigger; otherwise they do nothing. In other words, theres no way to have the ability trigger if no permanent you controlled has left the battlefield that turn, even if you intend to have one do so in response to the triggered ability.
