Emrakul vs Deflecting Palm
Asked by WickedVampire 9 years ago
So in my play group someone likes to use a quicksilver amulet turn 5 emrakul combo and say i have him down to 12 or something and he swings with emrakul can i kill him with the damage if i survive the annihilator? or can i cast it in response since annihilator goes on the stack? how/ when can i use deflecting palm on his emrakul attack?

No worries WickedVampire, just wanted to let you know for future reference. Putting double brackets around the card name will link it for you.
And yes, it also gets around Hexproof, for the same reasons.

The key word to watch for is "target". Deflecting Palm does not use this word, so it does not target.

Deflecting Palm
Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
Please link the cards in question to make it easier to be sure on interactions.
This pretty much boils down to the wording on Deflecting Palm. It says, "The next time a source of your choice..." which means you can use it at any time before the damage is applied, including in response to the annihilator triggers, then you will sacrifice your permanents and the damage effects will be replaced by the effects of Deflecting Palm. Also worth mentioning is it gets around protection since it does not target Emrakul, the Aeons Torn.
