Duskmantle Seer in multiples
Asked by kingofthemyrdrazi 11 years ago
Just wondering how multiple Duskmantle Seer s will work. Say I control two Duskmantle Seer , and my top deck is a Lazav, Dimir Mastermind followed by Dimir Charm , and that my opponent's top deck is Aurelia, the Warleader followed by Boros Charm . Does this mean that during my upkeep, my opponent and I would reveal the top two cards of our respective libraries (being the aforementioned cards), myself losing 6 life and my opponent losing 8 life, and then having both of those cards placed in our hands?
Each Duskmantle Seer would put its ability on the stack, and the cards would be revealed when each resolves.. not at the same time. For instance, if the first reveal resolves and kills your opponent, the second ability will not resolve and the second card will not be revealed.

Yes and no. Both effects trigger at the same time. The one that was casted first goes on the stack first and then the 2nd Duskmantle Seer . When the first one resolves, both players reveal the top card of their libraries, take the necessary lifeloss, and add the card to your respective hand. State based actions are checked (for damage triggers, total LP's, etc). If Everything resolves and both players are still alive, then resolve the second trigger.
The end result would be the same IF AND ONLY IF no other interactions or effects trigger in between resolutions of the effects

Thank you, and yes, I understand that they do not trigger at the same time and will only resolve if both (or all) players are still in the game.
@harrydemon117: I disagree with your statements on the "created first." I am fairly positive I choose which Duskmantle Seer
's ability will trigger first. The way I understand multiple creatures having an 'at the beginning of your upkeep' ability, I choose in what order to resolve them. My point of reference is if I control a Bringer of the Blue Dawn
and a Bringer of the Black Dawn
. In this case, even if Bringer of the Blue Dawn
was cast first, I may tutor with Bringer of the Black Dawn
before I draw through Bringer of the Blue Dawn
. I am wondering if I would be correct, because Duskmantle Seer
is not a 'may' ability like the Bringers of the Dawns.

When multiple triggered abilities happen simultaneously, they go onto the stack as the controller sees fit the next time they receive priority, but will resolve one at a time if priority is passed by both players. Both trigger, and go onto the stack, and as they are identical (and exist independent of their sources), it is basically immaterial which happens in which order. The end result you state is accurate assuming no other actions are taken, it just happens 1 card/loss of life at a time.

My apologies, the timestamp ONLY matters if the effects are not CDA's (characteristic defining atributes such as a triggered ability).
You are correct in that you get to choose how they go on the stack

@harrydemon117: You're still incorrect about timestamps. I suggest reading this article. Timestamps have nothing to do with this situation, and triggered abilities are not CDAs. CDAs (characteristic-defining abilities) are things like asterisks in the P/T of a creature.

Also, note that you never choose when a triggered ability triggers. You can choose the order in which multiple triggered abilities you control are put onto the stack, but those abilities always trigger at the prescribed time/event.

yes that exactly how the interaction would work, because u control two there are two triggers
