Dream Halls for overloaded cost?

  1. Can I play Dream Halls , discard a Snapcaster Mage to cast Cyclonic Rift for overload?

I'm pretty sure you can't do that as they would both be considered alternate casting costs and I believe you can only use one alternate cost to play a spell.

I went on gatherer and found: "This only replaces the mana cost (the mana in the upper right hand corner of the card). It will not pay additional costs from the card text (such as Buyback) or from other effects. It does not prevent you from paying those additional costs if you want or need to."

so it cannot be done, though when I pay the alternate cost, would it cost (7-2) = 5 or 7 overall?

According to Cyclonic Rift 's gatherer page, if you would play it without paying it's mana cost, which is what Dream Halls does, you cannot choose to play it for it's overload cost

Any effect that lets you cast a spell "without paying its mana cost" counts as an alternative cost, and only one alternative cost can be applied to the casting of a spell. Overload is also an alternative cost, so you have to choose between a free single-target Cyclonic Rift or an Overloaded one that costs 6U.
